Hello and welcome back to my blog! Since the new school year is about to start I came up earlier this Summer with the idea of this article. Today I will give you some useful tips for note taking and more and I will also add the aesthetic part! Ready? Then, let’s go!
Step 1: Preparing before the new school year begins
So, as many of you may be wondering you will say to me: Are you serious? I am only watching Netflix so get away from here!
The correct way though is to get active. If you start a few days before the new school year to set up a plan and be productive you will have better results in the end of this school year comparing with the other ones. I have some solutions for that.
- First, fix your sleep schedule. You should be able to get used to wake up early once again. That doesn’t necessarilly mean to wake up from 7am but you can wake up at 10am every day instead of 12pm. This way, your brain and body will get used to your school schedule and it will be far more easier for you to wake up!
- Step number two is to build a bullet journal or a plan (whatever suits you better) for the upcoming school year. There are many examples on social media and the internet from which you can see many alternative ideas. But, I would advise you not to copy those ideas as they are, but make your own. I will talk for this later on in the article so keep reading!
- Following, it is important to tidy your space up. Even this means your room or office, you should spend a valuable amount of time in order to re-organize and clean it completely, so when the new year of studies start, you will have a clear desk and room and it will be much easier for you to make up your mind!
- Lastly (this might be more interesting for girls but I think that boys also like it) one of my favourite things to do before school is to re-organise my closet. You can buy new clothes if that’s affordable for you, or make some nice outfits to wear!
Step 2: Take care of your mental health before studies!
A really important thing for students is to take care of their mental health. In my opinion, no student can make their fullest if their mental health is not in a good state. There are many ways to maintain a helthy and friendly relationship with your self. You can search through the Net where you will find motivational speakers, songs and ideas to make you love yourself if you don’t already.
Step 3: Find your way of studying
There are many ways of studying but the truth is that no one is really effective if it doesn’t serve you and your needs. Someone may be more productive during the night whereas another can be productive during the day. Sure productivity is really important for a busy student but in order for it to be effective it has to be done in a correct way that the student takes breaks and is productive at the same time. This can be achieved with many ways. For example, someone can study for 2 hours and have a 5-minute break in between.
Step 4: Be focused during the lecture
A really important thing in order to make it during the school year is to concentrate and try to be as consistent and active as possible. Being on cloud 9 during a lesson is not the best solution and I’ll tell you why. First of all, it won’t be helpful because the teacher says important information that might not appear in the textbooks and may be easier for you to remember the lesson. Also, being focused reduces the amount of time you would spend studying if you weren’t focused. Last but not least, concentration is a way that helps you stay productive and it efficient to your daily routine!
Step 5: Note taking
There are many ways to take notes during lectures, either lazy but aesthetic, or professional standard notes that help you understand the topic of the lecture fully with no need to revise many times. I obviously prefer the second option as it is more helpful for my way of studying, but that’s totally up to you! Although, things don’t end up here! I have a few tips that may help you stay organized with any lecture even if you are still in junior high school!
How to make the perfect notes:
- Start by noting the date of the lecture, next up the title of the topic be discussed and if the topic is separated into units, which is common especially in textbooks, you may mention that too. Be careful: you only take notes for yourself so don’t think what the professor will say. Take your notes just as you want!
- Next up comes the content your notes will have. I prefer to separate every paragraph or unit in smaller topics, but unfortunately, we can’t control that fully, because we have to follow the rhythm of the professor.
- A really important step is to highlight and take notes with many colours. This will help you define better your notes, as most of them are written with blue ink so it is difficult fot the eye to recognise the important parts. But here you should be careful: Highlighiting and colouring or writing with different colours, doesn’t mean that you shoukg do it all time. Many people are spending time highlighting whole paragraghs but then not actually knowing which are the important parts. That’s why when highlighting, you should only highlight the important parts of the paragragh, or just important keywords that may be in bold themselves.
- Something really helpful for me is when I happen to have some spare time to usually rewrite notes or revise and make new notes on topics I know that I will surely be examined at. This really helps me understand better the lesson and maybe solve parts that I haven’t unsterstood.
- One more tip is to use diagrams or photos in your notes. Especially in Biology and Chemistry, it is really helpful because the theory is explained better that way. Although, that has to do with you and only.
These were my tips for note taking! This is what I mostly follow, and that’s why I mentioned it to you! I am planning to leave some YouTube videos linked down here, from YouTubers which I follow and I really trust, but I’m planning to take permission for that so I have to send many emails! So, as you can imagine this article is not going to be uploaded in Summer, but in Fall.
