I’m kind of excited for today’s article. Honestly, I wanted to review this book for so long ago! I was simply afraid of critisism, but people! As a wise person said, if you don’t try it and get out of your comfort zone, you’ll never make it! That’s why I’m here today!
So, first of all, this book is for tough readers haha. Well, everyone can read it, it’s not restricting of course, it simply has way too much emotion. I have finished this book and it’s sequel a few months ago, and I can say that the emotion those 2 books gave me left me speechless. I was honestly excited, and I didn’t expect anything so amazing.
I will start with a small storyline.
There is a girl, Lily and we get the chance to see her past. Unfortunately, her father passes away and that is the major reason she is moving to Boston (for studies as well). In Boston, there are many new experiences awaiting her and a way of love that will be both sweet but also sour. She meets Ryle, the boy she falls in love with. When she was little, she used to be writing journals, to a special person for her. When she is re-reading these letters, we get to see her past, and we meet another boy, her first and innocent teenage love. His name is Atlas. After her life seems perfect and she finally is happy with herself, Atlas appears again. Will the connection between her and Atlas affect her relationship with Ryles? Will all the dreams be shattered?
Actually, that was all on my own, I did not copy the back of the book haha. But honestly, for a minute I thought I was the author. So, I will express my personal opinion of this book:
I actually love the storyline, and I love how Colleen Hoover connects the past and the present in such an amazing way. Many of the scenes actually seem too good to be true, but there’s also that glimpse of reality, and the real ugliness that actually brings you back in reality. For me the ending was unexpected but I was releaved and at the same time heart broken. Especially for people that have gone through harsh situations (I’m not reffering to myself) this book may be somewhat healing to them. Now this depends on the taste and the vibe everybody gives off. For me, that I like reading romance novels, I can say that it was a fulfilling book and a healing one, in other aspects. I loved the whole story and although it’s not based in reality, we all know that these behaviours exist and unfortunately not all of them have a happy end. I should definitely give a trigger warning, of abuse and violence throught the book, so please read the back and other reviews and critics carefully before you buy it. For some people it might be traumatising. As for the romanticiasion of the abuse, I absolutely disagree with this, and that is necause being a reader of this book, I was able to see the raw truth and the painful experiences clear as day. Maybe there was a bit of romance, but I remember myself hurting a lot when those harsh chapters appears. After all, you don’t buy the book to ruin yourself. I personally buy books because I enjoy spending my free time reading them. This book was truly an amazing book, and one of the best i’ve read so far. I definitely recommend it, although I warn everyone that you should be careful when buying this book.
My rating will be 5/5. If I could rate it in 10 it would still be a 10/10. Not every book is for everyone, but this book was definitely something I never expected. It healed me in many ways, and overall I’m very satisfied. Totally recommend!
That’s it for this article, I’ll be coming back tomorrow, new article, so stay tuned!
