I’ve wanted to write this article for so long, but after completing the editing of another article, I decided that it’s one of the best ways to represent myself over here.
So, for all those who do not know me and you just found out about me, Hi!! My name is Evelyn, I am 18 years old and I succesfully graduated high school. For even more information about me, please visit Contact me! / FAQ and About Us! pages!
When it comes to motivation, I sometimes can’t even give a clear, full sentence as an answer. You are either motivated by actions, by a youtube video, by a tv show, even by your own best friend. There are also times where you don’t feel motivated at all. We all have these days where we might wake up and wish we could spend all day in our bed, under some comfy covers, binging on Netflix or scrolling, or sleeping. In general, it is common to have such urge to simply wanting to exist without necessarilly having to complete a to-do list.
More often than note, this behaviour of ours could last more than a day, sometimes a week, a month. And even if it seems impossible to detach from life for a whole month, it is possible. I’m not sure why is this happening either, but maybe it is a signal for us to take care of our inner child, inner teenager and maybe even our inner adult. Generally, ourselves.
We believe that taking care of ourselves isn’t really a priority. If our lives are good enough, everyone in our environment is coping and doing well, then why would it be important to build motivation for our life to be even greater? Do you hear these words actually? I may sound a bit cliché but I said that we should build some motivations to make our lives even more interesting, greater, fuller.
I yet haven’t discovered the purpose of life, thus it is something I clearly can’t give an answer to. But one thing I’m totally certain about is that we exist in this world to live. Not to work all day and night, or study, or trying to complete as many tasks as possible within 24 hours. There aren’t many times, but ocassionally I go for walks around the town and notice people running, working out, hanging out, laughing, talking on the phone, rushing. When I get back from my walk I just let myself think what my life would be if I would actually was able to manage working out, hanging out, working, studying and having free time.
It sounds pretty tough, and it actually is. But, don’t be worried. No one has the right to tell you that if you don’t do it all in a day you’re a failure. You are not. If we try to analyse motivation, you may notice there are two terms: internal and external. That is, from within (ourselves) and from outside factors (activities, friends, etc.).
Going to work everyday, requires motivation. That means, you also have a goal, or much better, a purpose. You go to work because you love your job, or because you want to provide for yourself or your family. Working out also requires motivation and definitely a purpose, or a goal. You do it either because you love yourself and want to be healthy. Or, because you want to lose weight and be healthier, or because a friend does the same.
Did you notice? A friend does the same. Motivation to do something has two sources. And it is possible for someone to have an external influence but also the will inside them to go on. Even if sometimes we may not be able to find a purpose or goal to explain why we are doing an action, only the fact that we are willing to stop scrolling on our phone to do something else is enough.
What motivates me to write this article, despite knowing that maybe it will not be as engaging as I want it to be, is my passion to write. I like expressing my thoughts, possibly providing solutions to people and maybe even help them out with something. What I offer might be small and apreciative by a minority, but still it means a lot to me. There are days I am not motivated to write either, days where I feel like my life is an endless maze I can’t seem to escape.
Even when these days come, I try not to be mad to myself for not completing my to-do list, because I know that I will get back to it, soon. I may not know the exact date and time, but you don’t need to. As long as you get started and try hard to stick to it, then every comeback of yours will be stronger.
You do not need to live mechanically with a strict schedule, unless you like your life this way. Leave space for yourself. It probably sounds odd, but having to do several tasks every day drains you. Search deep inside for a small meanigfull purpose. Even the most idiotic (there is no such thing for me) thing, can be considered as a reason to get started. Sometimes, even curiosity works. Try it out! What could go wrong? Well, you may fail the first time. But, it’s human, dear human. We all fail. And it’s completely fine!
What matters the most is to get back up. Reward yourself, be proud of yourself. Enjoy your life. Be motivated enough to make it happen. And even if you don’t, you tried. And you’ll try again. And again. And again.
All you need is nothing but you.
You are your own power.
Make yourself count.
